- Well, I finally got around to speeding up the block DRAM routines, so I've
- released the C routines and the source to GUSTEST at the GUS archive site.
- It's faster now... clears 256K of memory in 3.3 seconds, including load time.
- You can beat it with assembly, but I don't have one, and can't find a decent
- one that I can afford to use.

- Hello,
-
- I've stepped through the Linux GUS driver code and some other utils for
- the gus (btw. I've read the UltraDox manual carefully) and it seems
- that nobody knows how exchange data with the GUS using DMA.
-
- I want to write a GUS driver for SVR4 unix and the only acceptable
- method for playing or recording sound is via DMA.
-
- Any information and hints are welcome.
-
- Thanks in advance,

- I have had a similar problem, although with the regular Alone in the
- Dark game. I too have upgraded to DOS 6.0, and used Doublespace. At
- first, _nothing_ worked, so I reinstalled Alone in the Dark and the
- Gravis s/w from the new install disks. Now, It won't let me use the
- DMA channel. Wave under windows works fine. I had Stacker 3.0 on
- before and had no problems.
-
- Anyone else had problems with Doublespace? Does it use a DMA channel?

- There are new GUS disk ver 2.05 in epas, I downloaded it, and installed it.
- These are the differences between 2.05 and 2.01
- - SBOS Ver 2.04
- - PLAYMIDI.EXE and PLAYFILE.EXE are the same version,
- but they are a little bigger.
- - CALLIOPE.PAT is different, although their sizes are same.
- (I only compared it with comp.exe)
-
- If you have installed the 2.01, don't bother to install 2.05 like me. :-)

- Ok, to the people having problems with U7. Have you got the U7 driver
- patches off of epas? They are replacements for the sb and adlib drivers that
- come with U7 2.
-
- To get links to work without freezing. turn off the background sfx.
- and run sbos with -x2.

- Isn't this in the FAQ or somewhere? The question about Links keeps
- popping up again and again so I guess people doesn't know which
- one has been answered and which one hasn't been. Anyways....
- even though you have the latest Links (ver 1.08) and the new SBOS,
- you still need to run SBOS again with a parameter. I can't remember
- offhand but it's either -o2 or -x2. Good luck.

- Windows does not support the use of sound cards in DOS boxes - unless
- the DOS application attempting to access them has been written as a
- "multimedia aware" application - such as the shell that powers Sierra

- I finally got onto the Gravis BBS again and downloaded some of the
- requests I had from those who didn't want to call long distance. I've
- since uploaded these files to our ftp archives as follows....
-
-
- Subdirectory: ..../sound/669/files
-
- funkymix.zip, instmix.zip, kickmeln.zip, sumrseve.zip
-
-
- Subdirectory: ..../game
-
- mima250.zip - Missile Master for Windows... finally a Windows game with
- sound! Ultrasound compatible of course. Sounds pretty good.
- Play is not bad either.
- tetrolis.zip - YES, more games for the Ultrasound....
- Tetrolis is a tetris game for the Ultrasound.
- Has more options than original tetris and of course
- sounds awesome. ;)
-
-
- That's it for now. I'll probably validate the files under submit next
- week.....
-
- QUESTION:
-
- There is a subdir under submit called disk2.05! Is there an install disk
- set with version 2.05? John? Is this legit? I don't see it on the Gravis
- BBS. If legit, what is new? Thanx.

- Anybody who's having the above error: why not just remove SBOS
- before you start Windows? SBOS can't run in a Windows DOS box
- anyhow. In fact, it disables itself when you start up Windows and
- reactivates when you exit.
