  39. Well, I finally got around to speeding up the block DRAM routines, so I've
  40. released the C routines and the source to GUSTEST at the GUS archive site.
  41. It's faster now... clears 256K of memory in 3.3 seconds, including load time.
  42. You can beat it with assembly, but I don't have one, and can't find a decent
  43. one that I can afford to use.

  87. I've stepped through the Linux GUS driver code and some other utils for
  88. the gus (btw. I've read the UltraDox manual carefully) and it seems
  89. that nobody knows how exchange data with the GUS using DMA.
  90.  
  91. I want to write a GUS driver for SVR4 unix and the only acceptable
  92. method for playing or recording sound is via DMA.
  93.

  146. I have had a similar problem, although with the regular Alone in the
  147. Dark game. I too have upgraded to DOS 6.0, and used Doublespace. At 
  148. first, _nothing_ worked, so I reinstalled Alone in the Dark and the 
  149. Gravis s/w from the new install disks. Now, It won't let me use the
  150. DMA channel. Wave under windows works fine. I had Stacker 3.0 on
  151. before and had no problems.

  178. .I bought the game and I have a 1Meg GUS.  I use SoundBlaster NO DMA 
  179. and everything works fine.  The sound is creepy, the music is hair raising.  
  180. I love that game!!! :)

  225. There are new GUS disk ver 2.05 in epas, I downloaded it, and installed it.
  226. These are the differences between 2.05 and 2.01
  227. - SBOS Ver 2.04
  228. - PLAYMIDI.EXE and PLAYFILE.EXE are the same version,
  229.   but they are a little bigger.
  230. - CALLIOPE.PAT is different, although their sizes are same.
  231.   (I only compared it with comp.exe)
  232.  
  233. If you have installed the 2.01, don't bother to install 2.05 like me.  :-)

  251. Ok, to the people having problems with U7.  Have you got the U7 driver
  252. patches off of epas?  They are replacements for the sb and adlib drivers that
  253. come with U7 2.

  255. To get links to work without freezing.  turn off the background sfx.
  256. and run sbos with -x2.

  268. Isn't this in the FAQ or somewhere? The question about Links keeps
  269. popping up again and again so I guess people doesn't know which
  270. one has been answered and which one hasn't been. Anyways....
  271. even though you have the latest Links (ver 1.08) and the new SBOS,
  272. you still need to run SBOS again with a parameter. I can't remember
  273. offhand but it's either -o2 or -x2. Good luck.

  311. Windows does not support the use of sound cards in DOS boxes - unless
  312. the DOS application attempting to access them has been written as a
  313. "multimedia aware" application - such as the shell that powers Sierra
  314. games under Windows is.

  383. Anybody who's having the above error:  why not just remove SBOS
  384. before you start Windows?  SBOS can't run in a Windows DOS box
  385. anyhow.  In fact, it disables itself when you start up Windows and
  386. reactivates when you exit.
